Flatland Cavalry @ The Grizzly Rose

WOOOWZA, let’s just talk about the two back to back nights with Flatland Cavalry at The Grizzly Rose which equals hella photo galleries from all three acts. I don’t say this enough, but I can’t believe I get to do this for a living. Praise Jesus!

Brandon Jones

Onto the show, let me first just start with the opener/house band at the rose, Brandon Jones Band. BOY, are they a group of fun. Brandon plays regularly at the rose (if you wanna have a good time, go see them when they’re in town). Brandon will rock a wig, chug beer, make jokes about the initials to his name (LOL), and just have a good ass time up on that stage. He also is just so personable and interacts with fans in the crowd after his set – you just love to see it!

Grady Spencer & The Work

Next up was Grady Spencer & The Work – they were the kindest, most genuine dudes who also CRUSHED that stage. Grady’s vocals blew me away, but also in a way that wasn’t overpowering. Grady also rocked a dope stache, and I was about it. If they’re coming to a city near you, please give them some loving.

Flatland Cavalry

Lastly, we had the main act of the night: Flatland Cavalry. Straight FIREEEEEE. I hadn’t listened to their music prior to seeing them live & was ecstatic to discover a new band that I can get behind. For those unfamiliar, their music gives me Asheville vibes: country/folk/smooth/mellow/I could listen to this on repeat. You can just tell they are meant to do this & be rocking out playing shows. A couple highlights: the lead singer, Cleto, & his wife Kaitlin Butts, sang a duet each night towards the end of the set. It was BEAUTIMOUS. I am a huge sucker for love and goopy cheesy doodley-ness so getting to see a couple living out their dream together, it was chefs kiss. I also really dug the keys/banjo (I think) player, Adam Gallegos, because he had mad swag. His outfit, his hat, it was all just on point. Also the bass player, Jon, had some rad dark sparkly nail polish & I just love a man who can rock some polish. Because it’s not just a “girl/boy” world anymore (hello: men wearing dresses anyone!?). I am about it, 100%.

Something I really wanted to touch on though was to give mad props to their drummer Jason Albers. I’m not trying to sit here and be like “oh poor Jason” because that feels fake to me. If you’re very confused by what I’m talking about, Jason was born with one finger on each hand. I wanted to highlight this because it’s so inspiring to me that something you think would hinder him doesn’t seem to. It’s a look at not saying “I can’t” and saying “How can I persevere even though this could be a hindrance?” I am someone who makes excuses and can let those things hold me back, but here’s to trudging forward and fighting back.

They just announced a tour, so be sure to get your butts out there, buy those tickets, and get your chance to experience this magicalness. Tour info here.
