Briston Maroney @ Gothic Theatre – Night One

Briston Maroney played a stellar show at Gothic Theatre on March 8, 2024 in Denver, CO (technically Englewood, but tomato toMAHto). Kicking off the night was Snarls!

Snarls

Snarls is a dynamic indie rock band. The group features Chlo White (vocals/guitar), Riley Hall (bass/vocals), and Mick Martinez (guitar). In 2019, they captivated audiences with their blend of dream pop and raw emotion in their debut self titled EP. Their 2020 full-length album “Burst” further solidified their reputation, featuring introspective lyrics and shimmering melodies. Now, they’re preparing for the release of their new album, With Love, set to drop on May 3rd. With tracks like “Big Fish” and “Heavy Drinker,” Snarls continues to maintain space for themselves in the indie rock landscape. They promise a future filled with captivating music and genuine storytelling.

Briston Maroney

A rootsy Nashville-based singer/songwriter, Briston Maroney mixes an earnest folksiness with a ’90s-style indie rock melodicism. Following a handful of singles, he released a pair of EPs before making his major-label debut with 2021’s full-length Sunflower. Deluxe versions of the album followed with singles, “Paradise” and “Body,” paving the way for his sophomore full-length, 2023’s Ultrapure.

Maroney began writing music in his teens. He listened to rock, folk, and indie rock including John Mayer, the White Stripes, Kings of Leon, etc. As a teenager, he auditioned for American Idol and made it as far as the Top 30 before getting cut. After high school, he moved to Los Angeles, where he continued to develop his sound. He landed in Nashville, where he drew fans with songs like “Hangin’ Around,” and “It’s Not My Fault.” These singles laid the groundwork for the release of his 2018 Carnival EP. The album gained critical buzz and helped build interest in Maroney. However, he found himself in rehab in 2019 and lived with his mother for a time. Eventually moving back to Nashville and in 2019, issued his second EP, Indiana, which included the song “Caroline.”

His full-length debut, Sunflower, was released by Atlantic in early 2021 and featured production from John Congleton. In April 2022, a deluxe version of Sunflower appeared featuring collaborations with Manchester Orchestra and Genevieve Stokes. Meanwhile, the prolific artist kept up a barrage of singles including “Paradise,” “Oregon,” and “Body.” The latter track appeared on his sophomore full-length, Ultrapure, which arrived in 2023, hitting #15 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers chart. A non-album single, the Andrew Sarlo-produced “I Told You So,’ arrived in January 2024.
