The audience was in for quite a treat with Meet Me @ The Altar taking the 9:30 Club stage in DC by storm on January 24, 2024. With support from Elliot Lee, John Harvie, and Honey Revenge.
Elliot Lee
Elliot Lee, a Brooklyn-based artist, was the first of three openers to take the stage. Lee’s music is edgy, and innovative in all the best ways. Challenging norms of electronic-rock music, Lee music reminds us that we are never truly alone even when we feel alone. Even more impressive, Lee is self taught, and their music is homemade. A clear tribute to their natural artistic talent, passion, and hard work.
Highlights from their performance included a high energy rendition of their song “Funny Bunny”. Lee was jumping and dancing back and forth along the length of the stage. I still don’t understand how artists manage to not get tangled in their microphone chord, LOL. They also broke out a bubble gun during the second half of their performance which was a massive hit with the fans & truly brought a childlike smile to my face. After their performance, they spent time hanging out at the merch booth to chat with fans throughout the evening!

John Harvie
The second opener for the night was John Harvie, a Nashville-based artist. Harvie brought the energy up another notch with his rock songs that were perfect for singing along. Harvie brought a stage presence reminiscent of some of the iconic rock and roll performances of the past. It’s hard to describe how the way someone plays guitar displays showmanship, but to me it feels that way. The big strums, the squatting down to sing upwards into the microphone, and holding the guitar up while playing.
At one point, Harvie stepped away from the mic to take a long drink. While doing so, he encouraged the crowd to yell and get into the moment with him. Overall, Harvie’s performance made me feel like I was at one of the best of house parties in college. The music was great, everyone was dancing, and just all around everyone was collectively having a great time.

Honey Revenge
The third opener of the night was the one and only Honey Revenge from Los Angeles, CA. The pop rock band kept the energy coming, dancing and jumping all around the stage. There is no debating that Honey Revenge makes phenomenal music and that their live vocals rival their recorded hits. But the most special part of their performance was the fan interactions throughout the set.
Honey Revenge is known to do one very very VERY exciting thing: they ask the crowd for volunteers who have never crowd surfed before to have their first experience during their set. It was one of the most fun moments I have witnessed at a show, and the trust between strangers is such a special thing to see. The individual in the air is essentially relying on a whole crowd of strangers to not drop them. It was the perfect moment in Honey Revenge’s set.

Meet Me @ The Altar
Meet Me @ The Altar (MMATA) is an incredible band that I highly recommend that everybody listen to. Last year I had the honor of listening to Edith Victoria, speak on a panel for All Things Go Festival at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland (where MMATA was performing). Ever since that moment, MMATA has been on my bucket list of artists to capture. And as my second concert of 2024, MMATA surely did not disappoint.
For the majority of the set, it felt like being at a dance party. At one point, a dance circle was even created in the middle of the audience with everyone laughing and cheering along.
MMATA embarked on there :Say It To My Face Tour: on January 19th in Orlando, FL making 9:30 Club their fifth stop of the tour. They’ll be touring through February with stops in US and Canada, and I cannot recommend enough grabbing a ticket if you have the chance.
