49 Winchester @ Bluebird Theater

49 Winchester passed on through Denver recently, playing a show at Bluebird Theater on May 4, 2023. They were supported by The Weathered Soul.

49 Winchester

Formed eight years ago on Winchester Street in the small mountain town of Castlewood, Virginia (population: 2,045), the band started as a rag tag bunch of neighborhood teenagers who just wanted to get together for the sake of playing together.

With its latest album, “Fortune Favors The Bold,” Russell County, Virginia-based 49 Winchester is ready and roaring to break onto the national scene with its unique brand of tear-in-your-beer alt-country, sticky barroom floor rock-n-roll, and high-octane Appalachian folk.

“As we’ve aged and matured, our sound has gone from a softer place to this grittier, edgier tone that we have now,” says lead singer/guitarist Isaac Gibson. “So, we’re trending more towards being a rock band instead of a country band. But, at the same time, I don’t think anybody’s ever known quite what to call it.”

Aside from Gibson, there’s also his childhood friend, bassist Chase Chafin, alongside other Castlewood cronies — guitarist Bus Shelton, and Noah Patrick on pedal steel.

The Weathered Souls

Started in the small town of Greenville, Texas, The Weathered Souls are foraging the path of modern day Rock and Roll, meshing the classic rock vibe with heavier, electric elements. Over many studio sessions, The Weathered Souls connected on their love of classic and pure rock bands such as AC/DC. They have enjoyed bringing their youthful twist & energy into this perennial, & ‘weathered’ genre, hence the usage of the lightning bolt. Even though the band is new on the scene, they have secured high profile shows. This includes opening for Whiskey Myers, Read Southall Band and a slot on the 2nd Annual Firewater Festival. The band is currently writing and recording their debut album that will continue pushing the boundary of their sound and demonstrate their focus on musical diversity that brings a distinct, rousing twist of Texas country and southern rock.
