Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness puts on one hell of a show. They played at Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, CO on December 12, 2023. Supporting them for the night was Wildermiss & Michigander.
Wildermiss

Michigander
Michigander is the brainchild (and unofficial nom de plume) of Midwestern songwriter, singer, producer, and guitarist Jason Singer. Emerging in 2014, the Mitten State troubadour employs a rich blend of hook-driven and radio-ready indie rock with electronic flourishes and earnest, big-hearted storytelling that invokes names like Lord Huron and Mumford & Sons. The band found commercial success with the release of their 2021 EP Everything Will Be Ok Eventually, which included the hits “Let Down” and “Better.”
The Midland native is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist who spent his formative years building a sonic persona that looked to a wide array of influencers, including Coldplay, Rush, James Taylor, and the White Stripes. After honing his skills playing solo sets, Singer relocated to Kalamazoo in 2014 and began operating under the Michigander moniker. In 2016 he issued the nostalgia-driven single “Nineties,” which garnered over a million online streams.
Looking to capitalize on the success of the single, Singer turned his one-man solo project into a fully-fledged rock & roll band and hit the road, sharing bills with contemporaries like Ra Ra Riot, Tokyo Police Club, and Twin Peaks, and released the group’s debut EP, Midland, in 2018. The following year saw the band ink a deal with C3 Records and issue a second EP, Where Do We Go from Here? 2021’s acclaimed Everything Will Be Ok Eventually EP included the streaming hits “Better” and “Let Down.” Michigander kicked off 2022 with a string of singles, including “In My Head,” which saw the band team up with Manchester Orchestra.

Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness
For most of the 2000s, pianist and singer/songwriter Andrew McMahon fronted the alt-rock group Something Corporate before segueing into a poppy solo project titled Jack’s Mannequin, which featured guest appearances by many of his talented musician friends. In 2013, he released his first collection of music under his own surname, the Pop Underground EP. Maintaining his usual warm, upbeat vibe, this was the first of McMahon’s records to rely predominantly on electronics and synthesizers.
His full-length debut, released eponymously under the Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness moniker, arrived the following year. McMahon went out on tour with Weezer and Panic! At the Disco during the summer of 2016, and at the conclusion of the tour he released the single “Fire Escape.” It was the first taste of his second album, Zombies on Broadway, which arrived in February 2017. October 2018 saw the release of the nostalgic single “Teenage Rockstars” ahead of the arrival of the full-length Upside Down Flowers, which appeared later that November.
