With four years of excitement & anticipation built up, Babymetal, the Japanese Kawaii Heavy Metal group and an even longer ten year wait from Dethklok, the Adult Show-inspired metal band went above and beyond expectations. This double-headline tour brought one of this year’s more unique concert experiences, making Fillmore Auditorium the hotspot September 30th, 2023. Two iconic yet underappreciated groups who are similar musically but vastly different aesthetically. With jumps between kawaii-inspired outfits & headbanger’s ready to mosh, it only left you anticipating the exciting experience that lay ahead.
Dethlok
Dethklok took the spotlight first and you could say they had an animated presence–literally. Known for their personas stemming from the cult-classic Adult Swim cartoon Metalocalypse, they thrilled the fans who had eagerly awaited their return. The band’s performance was definitely a humorous & rocking spectacle, featuring jumps between each bandmate onstage. These jumps allowed for solo moments stemming from their four studio albums accompanied by comedic intermission bits from the cartoon characters. The hour-long set was overall an entertaining journey that seemed to resonate well with the audience.

Babymetal
Babymetal graced the stage with the theatrical flair of preparing for battle, setting off waves of cheers from the audience. With four beloved albums & feature on Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape, the J-pop/Metal fusion was nothing short of mesmerizing. Enveloping the audience in a night of eye-catching visuals, synchronized dance routines, & headbanging that would have orthopedic surgeons nodding in approval. Personally, the mutual adoration exchanged between the crowd & the J-Pop members stood as a highlight of the evening, emphasizing the unforgettable connection fostered through their music.
