Dr. Dog Mesmerizes Red Rocks with Soulful Summer Set Featuring Crumb

Dr. Dog

Dr. Dog returned to the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre on July 1, 2025, for a night that blended nostalgia, psych-rock charm, and a heartfelt farewell to summer’s early days. Opening the evening was Crumb, whose dreamy, experimental soundscapes set a hypnotic tone for the crowd. As twilight settled over Morrison, Colorado, Dr. Dog took the stage and delivered a spirited headlining set, reminding fans why their genre-defying style and soulful energy have remained beloved for over two decades.

Crumb

Crumb is a Brooklyn-based indie-rock quartet formed by Tufts University classmates Lila Ramani (vocals/guitar), Bri Aronow (keys/sax), Jesse Brotter (bass), and Jonathan Gilad (drums). The band fuses psychedelic rock, jazz, dream-pop, and neo-psychedelia into lush, hypnotic soundscapes that feel both nostalgic and forward-thinking. Their unique sonic blend quickly caught attention with their self-titled EPs in 2016 and 2017, setting the stage for a devoted underground following.

Crumb’s debut album Jinx (2019) and sophomore release Ice Melt (2021) further established their moody, immersive style. With each project, they’ve deepened their sound while remaining grounded in exploratory, groove-heavy arrangements. In May 2024, they released their third record Amama, a swirling, melodic collection that pushed their signature textures into more experimental territory. The album earned critical praise for its inventive production and introspective lyricism.

The band has toured internationally, playing major festivals and intimate venues alike, cultivating a steadily growing fanbase. As of mid-2025, Crumb boasts over 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, with recent spikes in engagement tied to their new material and captivating live shows.

Dr. Dog

Dr. Dog is an indie rock band from Philadelphia celebrated for their warm harmonies, analog textures, and genre-blending sound rooted in psychedelia, folk, and vintage pop. The band was founded in 1999 by childhood friends Scott McMicken and Toby Leaman, who began recording music together in their hometown before evolving into a full-fledged touring act. Initially gaining traction through lo-fi home recordings and a fierce DIY ethic, Dr. Dog cultivated a loyal grassroots following in the early 2000s.

Their breakout album Easy Beat (2005) introduced their signature retro-inspired aesthetic and melodic charm. That momentum carried through a string of critically acclaimed releases, including We All Belong (2007), Fate (2008), Shame, Shame (2010), and Be The Void (2012). Their songs—often layered with philosophical reflections, rich harmonies, and analog warmth—earned comparisons to The Beatles, The Band, and Guided by Voices. Over time, Dr. Dog grew into festival staples and national headliners, known for tight, energetic live shows and a magnetic stage presence.

Throughout their career, the band made multiple appearances on late-night TV, amassed millions of streams, and built a robust catalog of over ten full-length albums, plus B-sides and rarities compilations. In 2021, Dr. Dog announced they would retire from extensive touring to focus on personal growth and new creative directions. During that period, members explored solo and side projects—Scott McMicken launched the exploratory jam-folk act Scott McMicken and the Ever-Expanding, while drummer Eric Slick released critically acclaimed solo material and collaborated with other indie artists.

In 2024, Dr. Dog made a highly anticipated return with a self-titled album, marking their first new studio release in years. The project was praised for its poetic lyricism, emotional depth, and lush sonic textures. It signaled a renewed artistic chapter and reinvigorated their connection with longtime fans. Now performing select shows rather than full-scale tours, Dr. Dog continues to embody the enduring spirit of indie rock with sincerity, creative freedom, and timeless charm.
