Fall Out Boy @ Bridgestone Arena

A throwback and a projection into the future of concert production, all wrapped into a 2-hour show, is the best way to describe Fall Out Boy’s “So Much For (2our) Dust” tour. Endless surprises of visuals complemented each song as the band ripped through the setlist.

I went into this show without knowledge besides my prior obsession and attending a concert nine years ago. Besides that, I was on my own and ready for an experience. Boy, did I get it.

Fall Out Boy

To start the show with a newer song brought immediate nostalgia to my ears. I can instantly tell this is Fall Out Boy. The reminiscing continued with endless songs from their past work throughout the show. But no matter what song, it felt like them.

The visuals were out of this world and unpredictable. From giant dogs and snails to an Easter bunny dancing around the stage, it was a full-on, immersive live production like never before. Other visual transitions included a half-frame of hand-painted artistic visuals that added to the song references. A circular screen sat center stage along the frame, providing visual guidance, and different songs were played throughout the show. Midway through the show, bubbles appeared. This fun prop allowed for interaction with the fans and the band. Smoke-filled bubbles flew all around, and clear beach balls were tossed throughout the floor seating.

A highlight of the show was Pete’s dispersing magic trick. He vanished off the stage and ended up on a small elevated stage at the far end of the floor seating, waving his bass guitar around as he played along with the show. Another highlight is Pete’s flaming bass. He plays it for a couple of songs, and mid-song, it will shoot hot flames right from the head of the bass—such a cool visual. And to see him play it while interacting with the crowd is quite impressive.

This show is an absolute 10/10 for any music lover. The tour has just ended, but be on the lookout for future shows they do! Absolutely worth it!

A note from our photographer, Maris:

As a Fall Out Boy fan who has been following them for over 17 years, I see their growth not only with their new music, but how they matured as a band in general — their sights and expectations for delivering an “experience” rather than just a performance are high. 10 years ago I was sleeping in line to see Fall Out Boy in Brazil with some friends. It was right when “Save Rock and Roll” was released in 2013. To have the opportunity to photograph this band that has been with me since my childhood is an honor. To see them grow and give the fans their best at all times is an honor. This tour was memorable and I cannot wait to see what’s next for FOB.
