New Found Glory @ Mission Ballroom

New Found Glory celebrated the 20 year anniversary of Catalyst on October 23rd, 2024 at Mission Ballroom in Denver, CO. Joined by the famous Chicago Indie-Punk band, Sincere Engineer, the night was one to remember.

Sincere Engineer

The nom de plume of punky Chicago-based singer/songwriter Deanna Belos, Sincere Engineer’s spirited blend of fiery punk-pop, emo, and folk evokes names like Lawrence Arms, Direct Hit!, Real Friends, Hop Along, and Waxahatchee. Debuting in 2017 with Rhombithian, the band maintained their blue-collar, D.I.Y. aesthetic while adopting a sleeker sound on subsequent efforts Bless My Psyche (2021) and Cheap Grills (2023).

Belos cut her teeth in the Windy City’s D.I.Y. folk-punk scene, playing mostly acoustic. In 2016, influential Chicago punk label Red Scare Industries, picked her up. She headed into the studio with producer Matt Jordan (You Blew It!, Signals Midwest) and a full band. The resulting Rhombithian, a blast of nervy yet amiable punk confections, arrived in October 2017. The group inked a deal with Hopeless Records ahead of the release of 2021’s Bless My Psyche. A hook-filled, relatable set of songs that paired the emotional grit of its predecessor with a more expansive production style. Belos and company continued to refine their nostalgic pop-punk sound on their third full-length effort, 2023’s Cheap Grills.

New Found Glory

Coral Springs, Florida band New Found Glory broke into the mainstream as part of the early-2000s wave of pop-punk acts. Rising to the upper tier of the genre alongside Good Charlotte and Saves the Day. Their breakthrough third album, Sticks and Stones, peaked at number four on the U.S. charts in 2002, only to be bested two years later by their Top Three effort Catalyst. Even though the scene had veered in a more hardcore direction by the end of the decade, NFG maintained their fast-paced momentum in the ensuing years, scoring U.S. indie chart-toppers in 2009 (Not Without a Fight), 2017 (Makes Me Sick), and 2020 (Forever + Ever x Infinity).

The band formed in mid-1997 by vocalist Jordan Pundik, bassist Ian Grushka, drummer Joe Moreno (replaced by longtime drummer Cyrus Bolooki after the group’s first release), and guitarists Chad Gilbert (previously the vocalist for Shai Hulud) and Steve Klein. Having recently graduated from high school, the bandmates wasted little time in amassing a cult following. Renowned for their energetic live shows, A New Found Glory toured up and down the East Coast in the late ’90s, selling out the entire pressing of their 1997 debut EP, It’s All About the Girls, along the way.
