Odie Leigh @ Antone’s Nightclub

Odie Leigh filled Antone’s Nightclub with classic folk and jazz on January 21, 2024. It was a stop on her “The Only Thing Worse Tour” in Austin, TX! Setting the stage for her was The Official Bard of Baldwin County.

The Official Bard of Baldwin County

Antone’s was already packed before the Official Bard of Baldwin County even opened up for Odie Leigh. Coming from Alabama, she/they are an up-and-coming queer folk artist. Right off the bat, the crowd instantly connected with her as they cracked a few jokes and opened up about some of the trauma she had encountered, inspiring a few of her songs.

She played a few of her favorites, including “Cicada Waltz”, “Bastard”. They also surprised the venue with a cover of “I Don’t Want to Set the World on Fire” by The Ink Spots and a folk classic, “St. James Infirmary”. The Bard’s performance was phenomenal, as you could see the passion with her belts and intense facial expressions.

Odie Leigh

Alas, it was time for Odie Leigh to headline. When she walked on stage, she greeted fans with a warm welcome and introduced her friends accompanying her on tour. With Joey Laborde playing the bass violin and Ajai Combelic on percussion and keyboard. Joey played a fun, jazzy tune as Odie talked, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the night.

Odie performed many hits, including “Ronnie’s Song” &”Crop Circles”& debuted a new song, “No Doubt”released on January 24. Despite enjoying every moment of touring, she took a moment to express her fears of performing in her hometown, New Orleans, for the very first time. This due to many knowing her personally there.

She closed out the evening with her song, “Take Back”, an anthem of reclaiming back your power. She had a heart-to-heart, asking fans to let out their rage. This by singing out, “I’m gonna take back some of my time,” during the bridge and ending of the song. It was a spectacular night for everyone, filled with emotion!
