Woo! I finally made it to a concert that included a symphony joining them…and it was Dispatch along with the Colorado Symphony, playing at Red Rocks on July 30, 2023. Also a part of the night was Amythyst Kiah, bringing us some sweet sentiments along with some delicate tunes.

Amythyst Kiah

Amethyst is a Chattanooga-bred singer/songwriter, who studied music at East Tennessee State University’s Bluegrass, Old Time, Country Music program. Her debut record, as a part of The Rounder Records, Wary + Strange was recently released. It is a deeply immersive body of work, endlessly redefining the limits of roots music in its inventive rhythms and textures. With an unforgettable voice that’s both unfettered and exquisitely controlled, Kiah gracefully interlaces potent vulnerability and personal revelation, ultimately offering a raw yet nuanced examination of grief, alienation, and the hard-won triumph of total self-acceptance.

This debut expands on the uncompromising artistry she’s displayed as a member of Our Native Daughters—an all-women-of-color supergroup whose Kiah-penned standout “Black Myself” earned a GRAMMY nomination for Best American Roots Song and won Song of the Year at the Folk Alliance International Awards.

Dispatch w/ Colorado Symphony

Dispatch: Dispatch is an American indie/roots band. The band consists of Brad Corrigan and Chad Urmston. The band’s original bassist, Pete Francis Heimbold, left in 2019. The band, which is based in the Boston area, was originally active from 1996 until 2002.

Colorado Symphony: The Colorado Symphony Association is the region’s only full-time professional orchestra, committed to artistic excellence and ensuring the future of live, symphonic music. The symphony performs over 150 concerts annually at Boettcher Concert Hall in downtown Denver and across Colorado. They have 80 full-time musicians, representing more than a dozen nations, & regularly welcomes artists from all genres of music.
