Norah Jones put on a beautiful performance at Red Rocks in Morrison, CO on July 23, 2024. It was truly a night to remember.
Norah Jones
Norah Jones slides between the spaces separating jazz, pop, country and rock, cultivating a sophisticated, deceptively mellow style. A style that has proven to be surprisingly adaptable and enduring. Initially, Jones appeared as if she was the torchbearer for two traditions on the verge of disappearing: sophisticated vocal jazz designed for small, smoky clubs and the warm, burnished sound of the Southern California singer/songwriters of the early ’70s. Come Away with Me, her 2002 debut album — deliberately released on the revived Blue Note imprint — hit this sweet spot and resonated with millions of listeners, turning Jones into an unexpected star. Instead of cultivating this niche, she soon proved to be quietly adventurous.
As the 2000s gave way to the 2010s and 2020s, she incorporated daring elements into her music, resulting in stylish, inventive alternative pop albums like The Fall (2009) and Little Broken Hearts (2012). Jones also played in such side projects as the Little Willies and Puss N Boots, singing a blend of country, punk, and jazz. Those busman holidays showcased her expansive taste and skill, qualities that remained evident on such albums as Visions, a 2024 album produced by Leon Michels, a veteran of Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings.
