The Beaches Ignite Webster Hall with an Explosive Night of Music

The Beaches

The first time I had ever heard of The Beaches, I was finishing my first semester of college in 2021, scrolling aimlessly on Spotify waiting for my dad to pick me up from my dorm for the night. We were taking a 1.5 hour trip to the city (the first of many for me, little did I know back then) to see The Aces perform live at Webster Hall. I’m a prep-right-before-the-concert type of girl, and turned on The Beaches’ album, Future Lovers.

I remember a lot from that night, but here’s a brief synopsis:

  1. I was super nervous that I was missing an event that my college club was putting on.  Everyone in the group basically begged me to go and not think about school for the night but still!
  2. Two girls spilled their drinks over my Aces merch. Rest easy, tote bag.
  3. The Beaches blew my SOCKS OFF. And my dad’s, too, for the record.

This summer, I ended up attending my first full three day festival (BTW, I love you Gov Ball but I don’t think I’m built for that life!). Highlight of those crazy 72 hours was definitely running it back with The Beaches on day two, with two of my favorite people in tow.

On Monday, September 29th, I saw The Beaches headline at Webster Hall for the third time, four years later at the same venue as the first time I’d heard them live. That concert in 2021 was actually the show that made me realize that I would love to capture live music through photography… and now I secured a photo pass to do just that!

Debbii Dawson

At eight, Opener Debbii Dawson came out with her band to start off night one of The Beaches’ NYC shows. I was actually very desperate to see Debbii live, as I had tickets to see Role Model perform in Boston earlier this year with Debbii Dawson as his opener. When he had to cancel that show (don’t worry, I went to the rescheduled date!), I was sad that my chances of seeing her perform live were slim. When The Beaches released their tour dates for the “No Hard Feelings Tour,” I knew I needed to be there.

If there’s one word I could use to describe Debbii Dawson’s act, it would be magical. With her alluring voice, beautiful yet compelling stage presence, and awesome turquoise power suit, I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone at the sold-out show quickly became a Debbii Dawson fan. She performed an epic rendition of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, notably a very challenging song to sing, with ease, poise, and control. I was most excited for You Killed The Music, a ballad that may or may not be often belted in the car with my partner. It’s very Mamma Mia coded, and I find that many of Debbii’s songs have a ‘70s and ‘80s flare thanks to her keytar (!!!) and synth-pop sound. With the return of synth from chart toppers like Sabrina Carpenter’s Tears, I’m calling it right now: Debbii Dawson will gain so much traction in the next few years.

The Beaches

The Beaches are everything you’d want in a “girl band” and more. Besides the music itself, I love when a band knows each other better than anyone else. Being a band for over a decade, The Beaches are family – with Singer Jordan Miller and Guitarist Kylie being sisters, they’re really family.

Walking on stage after an audio recording of a personal voicemail, the crowd screamed as Jordan, Kylie, Eliza, and Leandra ran onto stage. Counting down from eight into “Last Girls at the Party” the room became electric. Under deep blue lights, Jordan leapt onto the stage monitors, kneeling and engaging with everyone in the front row. A true frontwoman, she controlled the crowd from countdown to the end of the show by running up and down their elevated stage levels, flipping her hair as she belted each song. Kylie and Leandra, on either side of the stage, also had their fair share of movement and interaction with the crowd!

Between shredding solos, jumping, and singing backing vocals, the two worked perfectly in tandem to provide a pop–rock rhythmic background for Jordan’s voice. Behind the kit, Eliza dominated the drums. I could literally feel the beat in my body from the start of the countdown and knew the buildup was the perfect start to the show. Chemistry, chemistry, chemistry… it really makes a difference in live shows, and these girls have it! The Canadian band’s highly relatable songs, especially Blame Brett and Did I Say Too Much made the night feel like a movie set to the best soundtrack for the girlies who’re experiencing their twenty-somethings in the big city.

Between headlining a highly-successful tour, playing sets at the most notable music festivals, creating epic TikTok content, and being the representation we all need for girl bands in the world, The Beaches are killing the music game during their “No Hard Feelings Tour” run.
