Christian Obame On May 16th, Durand Bernarr turned The Fillmore Silver Spring into a sanctuary of soul, laughter, and love during his You Gon’ Grow, Too tour. With a sold-out crowd packed shoulder to shoulder, the venue echoing with screams for “your favorite cousin on your daddy side”—less like a concert, more like a long-overdue family reunion.

Opening the night in a way only Durand could, a cinematic montage guided the audience through his artistic journey. Set against a floral-themed stage design, this intro wasn’t just a nod to aesthetics—it was a visual declaration that Durand Bernarr deserves his flowers. And after a Grammy nomination, he’s not just blooming—he’s thriving.
Calling himself the “choir director” of the evening, Durand led a crowd that barely needed direction. From the first note to the last encore, fans sang word-for-word, lifting the roof with collective joy. The connection between artist and audience was palpable—Durand often stepped back from the mic entirely, letting the crowd carry the melodies while he smiled, danced, and made hilarious faces in response.
The night took an unexpected and heartwarming turn when Durand brought out Singer-Songwriter Terrell Grice as a surprise guest. During a break in the set, Durand paused the music to spotlight their creative collaborations, rolling clips from their various YouTube segments.
Throughout the show, Durand radiated gratitude. Despite his rising fame, he took time to thank fans for spending their money and evening with him—an authenticity rarely seen in an era of fast fame. His humility didn’t go unnoticed. When I asked a few attendees how they’d sum up the experience, the responses were unanimous: “Worth every penny.”
This being my first Durand Bernarr show, I walked away not just entertained but moved. His musicality, comedic timing, and church-rooted spirit created a performance that transcended genre.
And if this show is any indication, You Gon’ Grow Too isn’t just a tour name. It’s a promise.
